This single cylinder, petrol engine was donated to the Sumpoilers by a widow in Hopetoun, Victoria. It was found on the side of the road by her husband many years before, with piston seized and many parts missing including magneto, fuel and oil tank, along with missing head bolts. It was stored outdoors for many years until making its way to Murtoa.
But the team of dedicated volunteers at the Dunmunkle Sumpoilers were determined to get this old unit up and running. The gas engine was likely manufactured around 1949 based on the limited information from the serial number. It was rebuilt and 'new' old parts were scrounged together to put it back to its previous condition, although minus a radiator and fan which were likely part of its original state. It was likely used as a water pump.
A new coat of paint and it'll be good as new (for demonstrations purposes).Â
